looking for mr darcy

Not that I've religiously read "Pride and Prejudice"; the truth is I don't exactly have the ability to comprehend such fine literature, other examples like "To Kill a Mockingbird". Really, I can't even get through the first page. Or any of Tolkien's LOTR (thank God for the films). Now you know. ;)

Yesterday, Mrs Cris and I were texting (yes, we're still high school that way) about the search of our Mr. Darcy, Dr Mcdreamy, Prince Charming (either non existent, not available, married or gay). It's such a dilemma for some, and I'm not having a "40 year old virgin" talk here.

Yes, our parents and grandparents or people 20-50 years back tied the knot in their early years, and so, as we progress, women became more independent and have theme songs like "I don't need a man" or "Single Ladies" and of course, maybe the fact that we outnumber men could be related to that as well.

My idea of a better half is not just for the sake of looking for "someone", get married, have children, live happily ever after. The focus for most is the wedding of the century, the perfect location, dress, honeymoon suite, the champagne. And it usually ends up in a cliche divorce, if you're "smart" enough, you have the pre-nuptials signed. What I'm trying to say is that, marriage these days are like business deals. Even relationships. The boy-likes-girl-vice versa is no longer that simple.

The way people "commit" into relationships is such a sad scenario like there's a limited supply. You compromise your values, your beliefs, change yourself for a person (in not a good way), lower your standards. Just like when you see the "perfect" pair of jeans, and because they sold out the size you wanted, you settled for a pair that doesn't fit you and then usually you regret buying it in the first place.

Your friend's advice like Katy Perry "Hot N Cold", you go into a relationship like you change clothes. Isn't that some "good" advice?

At the end of the day, you should listen to advice like "Butterfly Fly Away" instead.

Caterpillar in the tree
How you wonder who you'll be
Can't go far but you can always dream

Wish you may and wish you might
Don't you worry, hold on tight
I promise there will come a day
Butterfly, fly away

The Meaning of Life

pic credit: Jeff Miller/University of Wisconsin-Madison

Canto, 27 (left)- on a restricted diet, Owen, 29 (right), eats whatever he wants

Roger Cohen written this article about "The Meaning of Life" on NYTimes based on the two monkeys (pic) Canto, and Owen, which is part of a study of the links between diet and aging. This study is being held at the University of Wisconsin, where Canto, the monkey gets a restricted diet with 30 percent fewer calories compared to his fat "I-can-eat-whatever-I-like" friend, Owen.

Preliminary conclusions published in the Science, two decades after the experiment began, "demonstrates that calorie restriction slows aging process in primate species." While 13 percent of the dieting group has died in ways judged due to old age, 37 percent of the feasting monkeyts are already dead.

Cohen's case in point is not to defy the study- but more on the monkeys' feelings. Low Cal- Canto seems to be depressed, while High Cal- Owen seemed more radiant and happy being fat.

Wait a minute.

In a funny way, I think Canto is thinking, "Oh great, I have been dieting my WHOLE life and this picture comes along and spoil everything by putting 10 pounds on me. In other hand, Owen looks like one the Balinese Temple Monkeys (still in better shape than them), 29 years old looking like a hollywood plastic surgery gone wrong. Note that Canto is actually better groomed than shabby looking Owen.

Based on the study, I still don't think we can use the study above to compare with people. We, unlike, Owen (although some of us doesn't look to far apart from that), have choices to eat, and you're saying he eats whatever he likes (it doesn't make any sense) .Owen is afterall, still in a cage, and if he hasn't been exposed to Burger King or McD's commercials, would he choose to have that? And I supposed shabby looking does not equal happy looking. I reckon that Canto is so much better looking (being biased this way).

And the whole thing about gain without pain, by looking for an alternative way to "help" (spoil) people to gain (life expectancy) without pain(of dieting). Utter Crap (with a capital C).

Cohen seems to take Owen's side. To him, "Living up to 120 years old holds zero appeal to him", which looks like he's saying that people who live up to 120 years old must be boring and always in misery.

I beg to differ.

There was a particular comment for this post that I'll like to highlight:

Comment #13 by StThomas1957, in which he said, and I quote, "Roger Cohen seems to have missed one thing in his analysis: free will. I suspect that the caged Canto's real misery lies not so much in the abstimeous lifestyle he is forced to endure, but in the fact that it is not his choice to make in the first place." Unquote.

I agree with him; if say, a person who chose to go on a healthy diet and lives up to 120 years old, I reckon he or she would be more happy and contented, rather than those who are forced to go on a diet when their doctor decided they need to do something like lose weight for instance. And I don't want go there.

Well, you are what you eat; you are what you choose. Life is defined by choices; there's no "Jai Ho" moments when it comes to what you'll become.

Cohen conveniently quoted "Life must be lived forward, but only can be understood backwards". Well, the truth is, when you're 65 and hopefully no pain-yet the last thing you want to look back is the counting of how much of McD double cheese burgers you had.

Take a chance, but not on your life, at least not on the expense of your life (health) and the things you want to realize.

Dream Dream Dream

Slumdog of the year: Susan Boyle.

Never dated, never kissed, 47 years old; and now living the dream she dreamed.

And some say "Why dream? It's not going to come true"

She proved everybody wrong. And this is a great lesson.

Everybody was laughing. And everybody stopped laughing now.

I heard this theory from an ex pirated vcd seller who is obviously successful now:-

If you dream of owning a BMW and people around are contented with a Myvi, do you think they will laugh at you? Of course. And likewise.

You don't need to be rich to think rich.
If you have the dream, and people laugh at you, think of Susan Boyle.
And especially if you're young, I'm sure we can afford to make some mistakes and take criticisms along the way. And then they stop laughing; that would be better than orgasm. ;)

do you need a validation?

Most of the time in our lives, we needed the "nod", the approval, just a tad bit of recognition; okay, what we're doing is right, and yes, voila, confidence, baby! Do we? Do we really need it?

Most of us do anyway. The only thing to avoid is the dependency on people's opinions.
Now, are we contradicting ourselves here or what?

I figured out that if we be less judgemental just for 1 minute, we can actually skip the "Oh-he-said-those-mean-things-to-me-I'm-hurt!" part.

Once you start judging people, for instance, a girl is wearing something obviously too short, you give them credit for their confidence being able to pull that off. And the next time you're wearing something too short, I think you will find yourself less conscious and strutting down the street (runway) without pulling it to cover anything.

Now, that's karma.

Speaking of "ouch" moments, the King (as in thriller king, Stephen King) bashed Twilight author by saying, "Stephanie Meyer can't write worth a darn". And adding on 4 most dreadful words that no writer wants to hear, "She's not very good". Yowza! Like cactus sticking up one's behind.
Read article.

I'm no fan of the Twilight, sorry, not a vampire fan, or pale looking heroes. But my point here is, if you were her, do you listen to the "King" or the screaming (Ed Cullen's) girly fans? Well, I would at least enjoy my royalties!

asian girls prefer white men. umm.

i was re-watching this. it's ancient, but i really ought to say something about this. my brains itch, i have to fix it. it's a fascination towards white men, like hey, we all (grew up with) love 911, BSB, Westlife! 98 Degrees (the list goes on and on forever, you know it). when a white dude actually stand before you, like OMG! right? seriously, i think that's usually the case with asians living in asia (that didn't sound right, nevermind). what more with asian-americans? *shrugs*

i think i'm pretty balanced when it comes to that. I grew up to love both kinds, asian and the white. like how we would all watch japanese and taiwanese, oh not to forget, korean dramas, and drool over boy bands. well, i love my asian men. if you watched that video (link above), you would've noticed some "asian" girls were lamenting about how asian men are so (sarcastically) feminine. Okay, no one likes a skinny dude (girl) with long hair. hey, is that johnny depp (over there)? *rolls eyes*

well, overall it's just a fraction, a minority, maybe 1 percent of the *imagine China's population* that claims we, asian women would fall (die) for a white dude anytime. well, no, they're not even close to a greek god; let's just settle for the inevitable attraction between a girl and guy, and let's not forget, a guy with a guy and a girl with a girl (come on, let's be fair, okay?). all in all, human beings are attracted to each other. full stop.

and afterall, all it takes is a good looks, mountain of confidence, great smile, that twink in the eye, and maybe some aphrodisiac; alcohol will do. you look gorgeous already!

toilet seat up?

Okay, I have a confession to make. Sorry ladies, but I do leave the toilet seat up, and I simply cannot comprehend why I do that. When I did my internship, there were more men in the office, so it's actually natural for me to put the seat up when I'm done. And now that I'm working in an office where there are only three ladies including yours truly, I do the same thing.

It's just natural for me, and funny thing is I do that at home too in my own personal bathroom. And the best part is, I don't seem to find it a hassle to do that; I mean come on, ladies, how many times you reminded the opposite sex to put the seat DOWN before you actually gave up, and just bear in mind that they're just plain hopeless?

You might as well just chain it down, like seriously, but for me, I don't mind doing the "put-the-seats-up" routine, simply because I think they mess up the seats anyways, so if you just do your part, you get a clean seat when you need them. (read: no urine or hair in sight!) It's really a win-win situation, and there's no point screaming your pretty heads off every time they leave the seats up.

I wonder, am I normal or what? I begin to think I'm not.

Pamper Yourself Day

Okay, I just made that up. But, always, for a reason. I just came back from the supermarket, because I decided to restock my shampoo, from the fiery red L'oreal to girly pink; maybe I'm thinking my hair needs more shine than usual, and I figured out it wouldn't hurt to add some girliness while I'm at it. Okay, that was just a couple of BS, but I do have a point there. And my point is, I realized we should pamper ourselves sometimes, once if a while, at least.

I was just standing at the sinful indulgence corner (read: ice cream *heavenly music*); deciding on which ice cream to get (okay, actually "whether" I should get some or not?), and an elderly woman standing by at the same time and yes, she does have the same cheeky, thinking look on her face. I just asked her whether she would want to get some ice cream, and she chuckled like "i-don't-think-i-should" kind of chuckle but stood there, still glancing at the ice-cream.

And then I decided I should just get a tub, thinking it would make a great after-dinner dessert; and yes, I grabbed one and made my way to the counters. No surprise, my "partner-in-crime" at the ice cream did not take any and just walked pass me as I made payment.

Okay, that lady wasn't any stranger. In fact, I know her. Also, she is someone that I have been observing of late. She is a wife, a mother, a grandmother and someone who doesn't pamper herself. Once, we passed by a Chinese eatery with an orange interior, and you could see her eyes lit up. I didn't know that she has been wanting to go there for a very long time, and when we finally went, you simply cannot imagine the joy.

And I know there are a lot others out there. Personally, I have no problems in pampering myself and spending (haha) but often you find yourself starring at the price tag, and go "Oh, I really shouldn't". We have all been there but if you don't pamper yourself, really, who will? I'm not saying splurge every time you find yourself go, "Just this one time! Go for it!" but don't stop enjoying yourself just because you cannot afford it.

What you can do is to get your own "Play Jar", like how you used to keep your change in your little piggy banks. Put some money in there, and spend it every month on something you've always wanted to do and within what you have in that "Play Jar" of yours. You will find that life is more fulfilling when you can pamper yourself, even though it's just a tub of ice cream.

where is the fairytale ending?

when fantasy disappeared, and reality setting in. does this means that we don't get our fairytale ending, the one with happily-ever- after-the- most -gorgeous- dress-and the- sparkling -tiara? i do know that when you kiss a frog (or 1000 frogs, just to be sure), it doesn't turn to a prince, that's why we have morale of the story for, i get it, i get it. how about reality shows? the one with the bachelors and bachelorettes? gosh, i'm so sure that you (yes you), have at least watch one season and do we all admit guilty to the fact that we root for that one girl or one guy to be given the rose every episode?

and then the proposal with full drama (the whole tear-jerker-i-do! scene), and attend shows together, and what? Going their separate ways, and showing up in another season of The Bachelor/Bachelorette? And here we are reading the news, gosh, "was all that "love" fake?". Of course, we still haven't decode the Hollywood love affair just yet, but all this drama on the show, will you marry me? let's have 5 kids plan? I'm yours-you're mine? Wow, that's good acting.

"The Bachelor" Where Are They Now?

At least Andrew Firestone got his fairytale after marrying his Serbian model sweetheart, Ivana, and expecting their first child. I guess he didn't need help from the reality show afterall. The dress is gorgeous by the way.

Should girls/guys stop dreaming about fairytales? It won't really hurt, right? Good luck, but keep your feet on the ground, I'll suggest.

i have a dream, a song to sing...

I did it in 2004.
I was so excited until the day I stood at the edge of the board.
It was at that point I knew that there's no turning back.
Finally it was my turn..
I was completely numb as I went nearer to the edge.
In the midst of mixed emotions, I was asked to turn to the cheering crowd below me, waving back to them.

Then I peeked down a lil, it was a do-or-die moment.
All I hear is instructions, 3..2...1.. and Bungy!
I counted on the "rope" that was strapped on my feet and took a deep breath and jumped! Less than 7 seconds, I was already bouncing, and I was trying to take it all in..

the air, the green, the sounds from the rapid river,
and the blood flow towards my head..

And I'm feeling it all over again.
Today, as a "graduate", my faith is tested once again.
It is harder now, then it was back then..

To say, I've been real blessed to meet with great people and great opportunities.Given it much thought, I've decided to take
a leap of faith
...

To the great ocean, where I can't see the bottom of it...
To understand in life, that I have to play in the present as well as planning for the future.. Where it'll lead me, I do not know, but I know I have a direction.

I have a dream, a song to sing.

we are the hero of our own story

we start reading, hearing, and dreaming fairytales since little. well, in the end, today, most of us don't think we deserve, or don't think we have what it takes to live our own "fairytale". most of us want to, but you know when you have thoughts like, "oh, that'll never happen", or "that's not even real".

question is, when are we going to start living it?

today, i just want to voice this out. "we are the hero of our own story". we must be able to tell ourselves, "i'm proud of you", "i'm enough".

Enhance what you're good at, improve your weaknesses. like a wise lecturer told our class, "Know Thyself". often enough, "wisdom are always whispered to you". I've learned my lesson, free advice are not appreciated until you pay for it.

next time you want one, i'm charging. no joke.

keep your coins, buddy

Joe Biden's acceptance speech deserves a standing ovation.
Bill Clinton endorses Obama.

I envy the Americans at times.
At least Starcraft sounds more hip than a circus we have here.
Maybe I should just be thankful.

Hao Hao (I'm making fun of The Mummy =p)

The Beijing Olympic's Opening was nothing short of spectacular. I think from the start of the live telecast, I had my mouth wide open simply because I was truly amazed by how creative they are, from the chinese painting, to of course, the final passing of the orb, which deserved a standing ovation.

Lovely presentation of the 3D globe, while a touching performance by Sarah Brightman and China's singer, Liu Huan.

One thousand men for this formation. They were decked in green, but had little bulbs on their body that changes colour as you can see in the picture. Other worthy mention formation is the shape of a dove, which represents peace and unity.

Yao Ming holding the China flag, as he led a total of 639 people of China's contingent during the parade, which is also the largest contingent among the 204 countries.

No, Chinese New Year is not here yet, nor McDonald's not having a strike, it's China's athletes during the parade.

Japan's contingent, one of the few, or might be the only one country that held their flag+ China's flag together during the parade. This is what I call, true nation spirit.

As I was watching the amazing fireworks, performance etc, as amazed as I was and still am right now, I cannot help but think that 40 billion dollars (estimation) is a tad too much for an opening, even for the sake of nation's unity. And just to think about the Sichuan tragedy few months back, and the Tibet issue, which is still ongoing.

Such irony. and here they are, promoting unity and peace.

What do you think?

good job seems rare these days

my dad's current overused phrase. and i'm blaming it on Hancock
College life has been great so far, as much as I *what'stheword* would very much like to move on to do other things? and my dad, being a dad, like any other dads. maybe not. he's one of a kind. always telling me that "girl, good job" (times a hundred time)

the first few times when he told me he was proud of me, i was touched, i mean really happy, because the fact that i spent all my life (nearly two decades now) trying to be someone he could be proud of. *onlychildsyndromewtfright*

and then there came Hancock and he was on a "Good Job" rampage.
i was on the verge of rolling my eyes (well i did roll my eyes everytime i hear that ;p) but today in class i learned a new perspective.

"you will find these days when you go outside, you don't get a pat on the back or a "good job". it's rare. i mean who cares?

which is true. i agree 1000 percent on that statement. you get more "envy/jealousy" when you do a good job, i mean by telling you you're doing a good job, would be admitting that i'm incapable. agree?

Well, the moral of the story is, you must tell yourself you're doing a GOOD JOB. whether in work, relationship or daily basis.

now that i think of it, "good job" doesn't sound so bad after all.
but taking for granted is bad.

make this world a better place by telling family, friends, colleagues, whoever you meet on daily basis, "Good Job". okay maybe not good job, but you get the drift.

there you go ladies and gentlemen, Good Job! xD

Jul 12, 2008

it's a lil tight, good job!

credit: pic

in a nutshell, hancock was a lil, i would admit it, disappointing

pros:
(hottie!) will smith, good cast (although charlize theron seems lost, but good acting nevertheless)

cons:
camera works (what's with the spinning, and too close for comfort close ups?), good twist but sucky closure (lame justification)

what's with shoving heads into one's ass fetish?
there is something queer about it
handjob, anyone? lol.

there's so much to do and so little time to think, or worst, post a blog. while the world is spinning like crazy, you just have to stay still for one minute and realize that everything is overtaking you. like zoom! what's that? you'll ask yourself. i'm not going make this easy to read because no.1, i intend to make this a ranting post, also on behalf of my college mates, so to speak. i bring forth peace and mean no harm earthlings.

we constantly search for opportunities, but when one comes, even if it hits your face, you wouldn't grab it. that's human nature, that's why "the rich gets richer, the poor gets poorer". i'm not saying that they deserve it, but life is about making choices, no one gets away rich when they think poorly, it's just the way it works. i'm not sure whether i'm making sense, well, i think i do.

i'm a good philosopher in my own way, i constantly preach but am not appreciated for my thoughts. well, it is a fact that people will hate you for making them think when there's already so much problems to think about. i worry about a lot of things, sometimes i worry if i have adequate capacity for thinking. one of these days, i swear my brains are going to explode. to think that i only used 2% of my brains' capacity, exploding brains? That's just me being dramatic. (rolls eyes)

there are times that you just want to skip 2 steps, i wish for it now, but that wouldn't make a good story for your grandchildren, will it? it's like the movie 13 going on 30, only difference is that i'm turning 20 (omfg) i have this lil wish scrap book where i paste pictures on it, dreaming one day that i shall be there. if it makes you feel any less cynical, believe it or not, one month after i paste a picture of a DSLR camera, it came through. and yes, it's the same model that i pasted on it. well, a lil wishful thinking wouldn't hurt. :)

the first chapter of my book is coming to an end, and the next chapter is about to start. i don't know how, or when it will, but i know it will...

one day darling, we shall make it to the top, and we shall clink our champagne glasses together, and laugh about it... in the mean time, i shall add on to my lil scrap book. ;)

I'm sorry, I'm just a little pregnant here

i needed something to blog about.
so when i saw this feature article on Yahoo! ah ha!
and if you wonder why i like to type on the "right", well, i just like it that way. for now.

we always hear "nice guys finish last" yada yada yada..
nice guys this. nice guys that. enough! what about nice girls?

no one has anything to say about nice girls.
so what they're nice? give me some hot chicks, then we'll talk.

okay, as I'm typing this, I did a super quick msn survey
(read: i have very little guy friends on my list)

question:
when i say nice girls, what comes to your min
d?

the common answers:

sweet, decent, friendly, down to earth, girls who make you comfortable, easy going

the O.o answers:
girl with short hair, you wouldn't want to know! trust me, pretty girls, marriable

marriable is not even a word. *shrugs* rofl.
but do you see the obvious stereotype?
most of the guys want to date a hot girl, but want to marry a nice girl
how would you know she's the one if you don't date her?

pretty girls are nice girls, one guy friend answered
physical appearance is the first impression and if you're pretty,
i guess you're nice (approachable?)
hmm, i wonder how true is that statement?

so, the question is: do nice girls finish last too?
maybe. but she who finishes last has the last laugh.

=) happy ending

well, don't listen to me...

you may be nice, provided you value and respect yourself FIRST
and you don't need someone to complete you.
Don't listen to Jerry McGuire just because of Tom Cruise. rofl.

so I'm hooked...

it's 4:54 am right now and I just finished watching Ghost, a Malaysian drama about a girl who tries to solve the mystery behind the death of a movie star (who supposedly died in an accident- and of course, he "had" to be murdered to make the story going when he seeks help from this girl in a ghostly form)

blooper video.
the funny thing is that how they did not prepare the fire extinguisher when they're about to shoot a scene where they set someone on fire. hmm.

the casts- the chemistry, the acting got me hooked.

if it was some bad acting, with an average storyline, I wouldn't have watched it. but then again, maybe sometimes you can't have everything, but a good effort for a Malaysian production, I think. They could've sit on the idea, develop it further, but I really wonder why they couldn't wait.

After all, good things come to those who wait.

p/s: the psycho fan girl is REALLY GOOD! i was so freaked out by her!
oh and the fact that there was like at least 3-4 songs of colbie caillat were featured in the show (I guess they must have been a huge fan of hers! :p)

stop barking.

politics never end, do they?

Raja Petra Kamarudin (RPK), was charged under the sedition act, after releasing a seditious article (read: Altantuya).

He refused the first bail, and went on strike, refusing visitors and meals. Only after the 2nd attempt, he agreed to a post-bail.

I even got invited on facebook, a candle light vigil event to support R.P.K.

Truth to be told, I didn't give a care about it at first until friends and colleagues ask me, "Hey, what do you think of the R.P.K's case?"

I think my colleague a.k.a. ex-lawyer made a very good point. Let's put it this way, everybody wants to save their own ass, and please don't get me started, martyr doesn't exist at this point of time, yes, not even R.P.K. so to speak.

I was quite sure that this issue would be of interest after the big win by the opposition, where individuals (starting from me, of course) start to question about "standing up, and voicing out your opinions". Yes, my question is, whether the opposition are really walking the talk?

R.P.K. today, made me think again. and it's not really convincing. If you want to be the hero of the people, make sure you have the facts, and the guts and the conscience. What these so called heroes are doing now, well, blatantly put, they're simply barking, yes, at the right tree, but maybe for the wrong reasons.

If you dare, then go all out. Tell the truth, if you have the truth. Yes, consequence, we face it with every decision we make, so like I've said, hero, huh? Show me a real hero.

Stop barking. It's not pretty.

Behind the "glamour"

you've seen the "glamour" side of it.

here's the the latter. xD

the waiting. omg. so malaysian lah, these "stars" are never on time...*

see. see. now only coming. when is it going to be my turn? *

ladies at work. :)

like they say, candids are the best!

turban guy: I polished my leather shoes, make sure you capture the shine, wokay?

beanie guy: aiyoyo..... *

as the after party goes on, we sometimes forget to look sideways...

i noticed them by the kitchen entrance- and that 3rd chef with specs (in the middle) is not bad looking! xD

awww. they're really shy, and really nice... nice fellows! :)

*all the captions above are only for entertainment purpose, to be taken lightly! :)

So, I should have taken more of those "un-glamour" pics- to prove that glamour ends at the end of the night, and behind the facade, we're all normal peeps with a normal job, with normal lives.

Those glamorous people literally live in front of the camera, it's their "job" to look great and awesome. At the end of the day, they're just people with jobs.

But this post serves to remind us, that sometimes we should look sideways, and you might see something interesting along the way.

p/s: Oh yea. I would also like to thank a few people for this wonderful experience. *ahem*

Manager: Yelena (who persuaded me to go for this event)
Wardrobe: Pam (wonderful stylist! Thank you! YOU'RE A LIFE SAVER!)
"Glamour" Entourage: Sara and Nasriq (without you guys, we would be lost! haha)

Kononnya lah, glamour kan? Ish.

E=MC2= derogatory?

I dislike (okay, hate) derogatory music (with passion)
but sometimes I can accept songs that are meant to be taken lightly
such as this one... or like Don't Cha by PCD.

besides i like the irony of Touch My Body's lyric that goes like this:

Then I'd best not catch this flick on YouTube.
(yea, I love YouTube and I'm biased. your point is?)

Mariah's say on Touch My Body:- Click!

It's a fun song. fun video.
it's almost like Paris Hilton's Nothing in this world. click.
